Peer review:
Scharf Pera & Co., PLLC is a member of the Division for CPA Firms of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AIPCA). As a member of the division, our firm is required to adhere to quality control standards published by the AICPA. In accordance with these standards, our firm undergoes peer reviews of the accounting and assurance services practice every three years. These reviews consist of an independent accounting firm's analysis of our compliance with our membership requirements. We are also members of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and are subject to inspection by the PCAOB at least every three years.
Continuing education:
Scharf Pera & Co., PLLC maintains a policy that all professional staff comply with the continuing professional education requirements of the North Carolina Board of Certified Public Accountants. This policy states that these individuals maintain an adequate awareness and understanding of current developments in technical literature, and assist in the training and development of staff members under their supervision. Also, a minimum of 40 hours of approved continuing education on an annual basis is required.
Resources:
Scharf Pera & Co., PLLC assists our staff in complying with the professional education requirements by maintaining a current library of accounting manuals, tax publications and online research tools and by circulating articles and pronouncements of all changes or emerging issues in the profession. We also hold monthly staff meetings to discuss these issues, as well as annual in-house continuing professional education seminars to teach and discuss the most relevant issues in more detail.
